Twelve-Lead Electrocardiography – Theory & Interpretation

2nd Edition

LOOK INSIDE

Description

For nurses, paramedics, PAs, ER docs, and other critical and emergency care providers. This is a fully revised and updated edition of the major work that teaches health professionals to utilize the 12-lead ECG in daily clinical practice. It deals with the analysis of the morphology of ECG waveforms in order to diagnose many conditions not related to rhythm, including ischemia, acute myocardial infarction, and hypertrophy of the heart muscle. Almost all other texts of morphologic interpretation for non-cardiologists rely heavily on memorizing electrocardiographic patterns. This book is unique due to its different technique, leading the reader through easily understood electrophysiologic principles, and then allowing the reader to deduce what the 12 lead electrocardiogram will look like under various circumstances.

Reviewer: Scott W. Ard, MD, BS (Ochsner Clinic Foundation)

Description: This is a second edition of a concise review of electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation, which focuses on the rapid and precise analysis of ECG tracings through a better understanding of electrocardiographic theory.

Purpose: The book serves its purpose by reviewing the various clinical presentations of chest pain syndromes and describing the role of the screening ECG in making a timely diagnosis. It provides a concise yet comprehensive discussion of the physiological and pathologic processes that affect the ECG, thereby highlighting the importance of electrocardiography in making rapid diagnoses. The authors highlight ECG findings that contribute to critical decision making and influence choice of therapy.

Audience: This easy to read book is directed at ACLS providers who work in settings where chest pain evaluation protocols need to be implemented urgently to speed coronary intervention. It caters to personnel in settings where patients with acute coronary syndromes are routinely encountered: EMS, emergency departments, primary care centers, and critical care units. The book is also a valuable tool for medical students and non-ICU physicians who need to have a working knowledge of ECG fundamentals.

Features: The chapters are organized into sections such as basic physiological and pathologic processes, waveforms and vectors, basic conduction abnormalities, chamber evaluation, acute cardiac syndromes (ACS), clinical associations, interventions, and case presentations. The information in the chapters is organized so that readers may easily reference it. The text is supported by annotated graphics, summary tables, and schematics that allow the reader to focus on the essentials. Questions at the end of each chapter allow readers to test their knowledge and reinforce principles of ECG interpretation and application.

Assessment: Acute cardiac syndromes are a major cause of morbidity and mortality, and successful therapy depends upon timely diagnosis which is often made by the ECG. This book is a welcome addition to the body of literature which examines the role of electrocardiography in ACS. It provides first responders with a concise reference for using the ECG to diagnose ACS and choose appropriate therapies in acute care settings.

This review is from: Twelve-Lead Electrocardiography: Theory and Interpretation (Paperback)

Twelve-Lead Electrocardiography: Theory and Interpretation is the best explanation yet. I would highly recommend this book to any health care professional looking to learn more about interpreting EKG’s. The book gives excellent background and breaks the interpretation down very simply. You can start reading with limited knowledge of how to interpret an EKG and end feeling very informed. You learn the hows and whys of what actually makes the waveforms the way they are and what happens in/to the heart to make them that way. An added bonus is a review of conditions that may represent a certain change you see on an EKG. After reading this book you will be thoroughly educated and understand why an EKG looks the way it does rather than just memorize the waveforms. Very pleased!

Bruce Foster provides a 360 degree angle for 12 lead interpretations in his book titled Twelve-Lead Electrocardiography: Theory and interpretation. The book provides the reader with a 3D view to assist in understanding the pathway of electrophysiology and how it correlates to the cardiogram. When you read this book, things click. Light bulbs go off and you have a clear understanding on what you are looking at as well as how it correlates to your patient. I agree, This book is a must have for all ACLS providers.

This review is from: Twelve-Lead Electrocardiography: Theory and Interpretation (Paperback)

This is the only book to buy for 12 lead EKG interpretation. It takes you from the basic interpretation, through the complete physiology and advanced instruction in axis devation. From the paramedic student to the established medical providers looking to further their knowledge, this is it. Well written and easy to understand, I highly recommend this book.

This review is from: Twelve-Lead Electrocardiography: Theory and Interpretation (Paperback)

This is the best 12-lead book that I have seen so far. The concepts on reading 12-lead EKG’s can be very intimidating. With the information contained in this book you will get a better and more knowledgeable understanding of 12-leads. I highly recommend this book to any practitioner involved in reading and interpreting 12-lead EKG’s. Definitely a must have.

This review is from: Twelve-Lead Electrocardiography: Theory and Interpretation (Paperback)

This book was easy to read and understand. I have read many EKG books over the years and always had questions about different phases of the EKG. This book not only answered my questions but gave me an entirely new way of looking at EKG interpretation. It is complete and concise. I recommend it to everyone faced with having to interpret EKGs and understanding cardiac problems.
